Our School & ELC

Carron Primary School and Early Learning Centre (ELC) is a non-denominational establishment located in the north of Falkirk, approximately 2 miles from the town centre. In line with the principles outlined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), Scotland’s Curriculum for Excellence, and the Getting It Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) framework, our aim is to foster a learning environment where every child can reach their full potential, academically, socially, and physically, while developing a strong sense of self-esteem, self-awareness, and self-discipline. We are committed to creating a safe, nurturing, and well-managed environment where children feel valued and supported.

Our approach is rooted in the belief that all children have the right to learn and thrive, both in their education and in life. This is reflected in our ethos and values, which support the development of key knowledge, skills, and attributes necessary for flourishing in life, learning, and work. Our focus is on preparing young people to become active, engaged global citizens with the skills needed to address challenges and seize opportunities, both now and in the future.

In alignment with Scotland’s Curriculum for Excellence, we aim to develop:

  • Successful Learners who demonstrate enthusiasm, motivation, and perseverance to achieve high standards. These learners are open to new ideas and approaches, embracing challenges with a growth mindset.
  • Confident Individuals with a strong sense of self-respect and emotional wellbeing, supported by secure values and beliefs. They develop resilience, ambition, and a clear sense of purpose.
  • Responsible Citizens who respect the rights and dignity of others, and who actively participate in political, social, cultural, and economic life. They understand their rights and responsibilities, in accordance with the UNCRC.
  • Effective Contributors who demonstrate an enterprising attitude, self-reliance, and resilience. They are equipped with Meta Skills, such as creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to society.

Carron Primary School and ELC is a community where children and families are central to everything we do. We recognise the importance of partnerships with families, communities, and external services, ensuring that every child, regardless of background, feels included, supported, and welcomed. This collaborative approach ensures that children’s wellbeing is prioritised through rights-based, strengths-based, and holistic strategies that respect each child’s stage of development and individual circumstances.

Our commitment to Learning for Sustainability is embedded in our curriculum and practice, encouraging children to consider their role in shaping a more just, sustainable, and equitable world. We support learners to understand how their actions can positively impact the environment, society, and the economy, promoting a sense of global responsibility.

Guided by the GIRFEC principles, we ensure that children’s needs and wellbeing are met through integrated services that are responsive to individual circumstances. We recognise that each child’s journey is unique, and we tailor our support to help them flourish both as individuals and as part of a wider community. By working together with families and partners, we strive to provide the best opportunities for every child in the Carron community, supporting their personal development, learning, and aspirations.
